15 Fun Ways To Exercise
Exercising may or may not be on your list of fun activities, and some people believe that it’s a necessary evil.
The way you approach exercise has a lot to do with how you think about it.
Obviously, viewing any situation through a negative lens will almost always produce negative results.
Living a fitness lifestyle has been proven to enhance our overall health and may increase our longevity.
Regardless of what you think about exercising, you must incorporate some form of it into your weekly schedule in order to reap the benefits.
Fortunately, for you, there’s no one size that fits all when it comes to working out because there are literally an infinite number of ways to exercise due to the variations that can be implemented.
If you’re the type of person that gets bored easily, then mix things up by trying a variety of exercises.
Who says that working out has to be boring or doing the same old tired type of routines?
You’re only limited to your imagination.
Today, you will discover fifteen fun ways to incorporate exercise into your weekly schedule.
Many of them may not seem like exercise because of how much fun they are.
Let’s cover them now…
1)) Get A Workout Buddy
Finding the perfect workout partner is absolutely one of the best moves you can make toward getting into great shape and having fun during the process.
Benefits of a workout buddy:
- Hold you accountable
- Help push past mental and physical barriers
- Help you reach your fitness goals faster
- Provide moral support
- Come up with ways to make exercise fun
You cannot go wrong if you choose your workout support system wisely, because two or more brains are better than one.
2)) Dance Your Way to Fitness
Almost everybody likes to dance, no matter if they can perform the latest moves or not.
When a person hears their favorite songs he or she immediately feels the rhythm take control.
A little bobbing of the head may occur, to foot tapping, and maybe a full-on dance.
Dancing can burn several calories and do wonders for your cardiovascular system.
The best part is you don’t feel like you’re exercising due to all the fun you’re having.
Options for Learning How to Dance:
- Make up your own moves
- Join a dance class (online or in person)
- Watch free dance videos on YouTube
Don’t complicate this, simply pick the method that’s right for you and just get started.
3)) Frisbee Games
Throwing a Frisbee or a.k.a Flying Discs around may conjure up childhood memories of being at the park with your family.
Tossing around that little plastic disk is so much fun.
You can make it do all sorts of tricks as you throw it to the next person.
Those that play Frisbee games are not aware of the many health benefits.
With each toss, you’re working your CORE, Forearms, Biceps, Triceps, Shoulders, and even Leg muscles depending on the type of throw you perform.
Not to mention the cardiovascular benefits if you incorporate a little running into your Frisbee games.
You should think about getting a group of friends together at least once per week to play Frisbee games or at the very minimum, to simply throw it back and forth to one another.
Heck, you can have each person run out to catch the Frisbee like how they throw long passes in football.
Remember, you’re only limited to your imagination.
4)) Walk the Doggy
Walking has got to be one of the most underrated forms of exercise because of its low-impact nature.
The truth of the matter is that walking is highly effective for burning calories and melting off body fat if you’re consistent.
Couple walking with resistance training and a healthy diet, and you should start seeing some drastic changes to your physique.
Walking your dog adds another layer of fun and excitement, especially if you go on a short journey with other dog walkers.
This is a great way to catch up with friends, family, and people in the neighborhood.
5)) Biking
You can cover a lot of ground while biking which gives you the option to burn more calories in a shorter period of time, depending upon your intensity levels and the terrain.
Biking allows you to enjoy the scenery of wherever you decide to take a cruise.
If you have the luxury of living close to a beach, paved lakefront, or a beautiful park, then choose those locations to go biking at.
Be certain to take a buddy, which can make the entire riding experience fun by having someone to talk with along your therapeutic journey.
6)) Hiking
There are many levels of hiking depending upon the location you choose to trek, which range from beginner, to intermediate, and advanced.
In my opinion, I recommend that everyone should hike with a partner because you never know what can potentially go wrong.
Also, you should pick a trail that you’re physically conditioned to handle as some are treacherous.
Hiking is a true calorie burner, especially if you carry some type of supply pack with hiking equipment.
You can make hiking fun by stopping off in a safe location to have a picnic.
Hiking is just a wonderful activity where you could share great stories with those that come along for the journey.
Everyone will get a great workout in without calling it exercise.
7)) Badminton
This classic has to be one of the most fun games around and doesn’t require a ton of equipment.
All you need is an inexpensive badminton set, a decent-sized backyard or park, and at least two players.
You really have to bring your “A-Game” when playing badminton.
If you’re the competitive type, then badminton is right up your alley.
Depending upon factors such as climate and the level at which the game is played; you will definitely burn some calories.
You see, this is exercise and fun combined into one activity.
8)) Bonce Around On A Trampoline
Jumping up and down on a fitness trampoline may not seem like exercise, but give it a try for 5 to 10 minutes.
I bet you’ll change that tune really fast.
Trampolines aren’t only for little kids because you can get a great low-impact workout in by simply jumping up and down on them.
Think about all the muscles that are engaged with each jump.
Jumping on a trampoline is a great way to strengthen your cardiovascular system, burn extra calories, and tone your legs and CORE, among other body parts.
Tip: To reduce the risk of injuries, have your trampoline installed by a professional if you purchase the backyard type, and get clearance from your physician if you’ve suffered from joint issues in the past. Also, use the device as directed without any horseplay.
9)) Join a Local Sports Team
I know this option isn’t for everyone, especially with the laundry list that most of us have on any given day of the week.
However, if you happen to have enough free time to devote to a local neighborhood team such as softball, bowling, and so on, you should consider going for it.
This gives you a chance to make new friends and acquaintances all while having loads of fun and getting into the best shape of your life.
Tip: Consider getting some of your family and friends to join as this can go a long way towards developing stronger bonds with the people you love and getting them into a fitness lifestyle without trying to force weird diets and exercise programs down their throats.
10)) Wearable Fitness Device Competitions
Fitness trackers have become commonplace within many of today’s wearable devices such as smartwatches.
Apart from all the bio-metric data, one of the coolest features is the option to participate in friendly competitions with people around the world.
The most popular competition is to see who can put in the most steps at the end of the day.
It’s really fun to participate in those friendly competitions.
And the best part is, everybody wins regardless of who walks the most steps.
Because more steps equal more calories burned, period!
11)) Start a Walking Club
Have you ever driven to work early in the morning and noticed groups of people jogging or walking?
If so, you immediately knew that this was a group of exercisers working out together using a boot camp approach.
There’s no reason why you can’t form your own walking and or jogging club.
All you have to do is…
- Establish the days and times of the week the club will meet.
- Simply make a list of the folks you’d like to invite.
- Contact each person on your list and extend an invitation to them.
- Provide tips for how to dress and the best types of shoes to wear.
- Offer nutritional tips and do not forget bottled water.
There’s no better way to start the day than exercising with a group of people that pushes each other, not to mention the fun conversations thrown into the mix.
Tip: Pick safe locations to walk or jog and everyone should have at least one partner remain in close proximity. Remember, there’s safety in numbers, especially during the early morning hours when it’s usually dark outside.
12)) Indoor Rock Climbing
While scaling the side of a mountain may terrify most people, a safer alternative is indoor rock climbing.
This provides a much safer and more controlled environment that’s just as challenging.
It’s the perfect sport if you’re an adrenaline junky looking to get a quick fix.
Rock climbing can be fun because it is both physically and mentally demanding.
There’s a sense of accomplishment every time you make it to the top.
It’s one of the best forms of exercise you can do because your entire body is involved.
If you consistently participate in this sport, your body can’t help but become more toned.
If you’re bored with your existing exercise routine, why not give indoor rock climbing a try?
Tip: Before joining any rock climbing facility, be certain to read the customer reviews and book appointments to visit. This will allow you to get a feel for the environment and a visual to inspect the cleanliness and condition of the equipment. You will also be able to judge the competence of the instructors and other staff members.
13)) Jump Roping
This is another classic that’s associated with little children performing Double Dutch rope jumping.
Don’t forget that elite athletes such as world-class boxers incorporate jump roping into their workout routines.
If jump roping is good enough for athletes, they are good enough for all of us, providing we have no pre-condition injuries, especially in the legs and shoulders areas.
Jumping rope improves hand-eye coordination, burns a lot of calories, improves the cardiovascular system, and tones several muscles.
It’s a great warm-up exercise you can use before tackling a full-on resistance training routine.
Jumping rope isn’t only a fantastic exercise movement; it can be fun especially when you’re able to continuously jump without messing up.
Get a workout buddy and create friendly competitions to see who could jump rope the longest without messing up.
Since jump ropes are relatively inexpensive, go ahead and order one today, then put it to good use.
14)) Swim To Get Slim
Have you seen how in-shape swimmers are, especially those that compete at the highest levels?
Swimming engages multiple muscles in the body, and the best part is there’s no jarring or impact to any of the joints.
This is why some physical therapist incorporates swimming into their patients’ recovery routines.
Swimming can be very therapeutic.
You know that I’m a huge fan of friendly competition when it comes to getting into shape.
To make swimming fun, you could race against a buddy or two.
You could also do the time-trial type of swim workouts to see who gets the best overall score.
There could even be an inexpensive prize for the winner such as a gift card to a smoothie shop.
You don’t need a lot of swimming gear to reap the benefits of doing laps in a pool.
If this option sounds like a winner, then get started ASAP!
15)) Miniature Golf
You don’t have to be a professional golf player to enjoy a few rounds of miniature golf.
People from all walks of life participate in this fun game, from entire families, and friends, to couples in love that are on a date.
On the surface, miniature golf may not seem like exercise, but when you really think about what’s involved, it becomes clear.
First off, there’s a lot of walking and swinging the golf club, which activates several muscles in the body.
The best type of workouts are those you don’t consider workouts, and that’s what playing miniature golf is.
Most towns and cities have some form of miniature golf nearby, so the next time you have some free time, grab a few people and go have some fun while burning calories at the same time.
Conclusion
I just shared fifteen fun ways you could incorporate exercise into your weekly workout program that can prevent boredom.
Exercise doesn’t have to be the standard weight training and walking on a treadmill for hours approach.
With all of the options available, you should mix and match various types of exercises into your routines.
There are no rules set in stone that dictates you must stick with the classic workouts.
One of the biggest secrets to remaining consistent with working out is to find the type of exercise you enjoy doing, no matter what form you take.
The human body doesn’t care if you’re rock climbing or power walking, all it knows is that it’s moving and burning calories.
My advice is to not pigeonhole yourself into any one form of exercise type and to safely experiment with others until you find those you enjoy the most.
