3 Keys To Success Using Modeling
Let’s be clear, there’s more to achieving success than following a couple of steps given by some guru.
If it was that easy, everyone would have everything they desire in life, but that’s far from the truth.
Emulating successful people is one key to success. Be careful, though, if you ask them for advice. Often, people don't really know why they succeed but will give you as many explanations as you want anyhow.
For example; have you ever seen a 100-year-old person be interviewed on TV and the host asked him or her “what’s their secret to longevity?”
Then the older person responds with something like, “I smoke a cigar and drink a glass of wine every day.”
It’s great the person is still alive well into the triple-digits, but in that example, I highly doubt those daily habits will increase anyone’s longevity.
Modeling what successful people do is a fantastic way to shortcut the process of achieving goals.
However, the key is choosing the right person, group, or system to begin with.
If you follow the wrong processes, you most likely will not get the results you desire.
This should be obvious, but sometimes we throw common sense out the window, especially during times of desperation.
Rip-off artists prey on this desperation, especially in the make-money space.
Today, I’m going to briefly touch upon three tips you could apply to model success, which will give you a basic understanding of this awesome time-tested method.
Let’s get into it…
1)) Study Successful People
One key, then, isn't in doing what successful people say but rather in doing what they do.
Unfortunately, there are gurus out there teaching one thing but are doing something totally different to achieve their success.
Don’t get me wrong, there are some great mentors who actually practice what they preach.
The problem is identifying who these folks are by separating them from the fakes.
Unless you know someone who’s familiar with the industry or topic you’re interested in, get lucky, or do some intensive research, you could potentially get ripped off.
You may be a go-getter, but I highly advise you to take the time to research whatever field, niche, or topic you’d like to do something in, before proceeding.
This research can go a long way toward preventing you from wasting time, energy, and money.
The purpose of your research is to find the top experts in whatever it is you’d like to get into.
For instance, if you’d like to start an online business, your research should include finding out what the most proven business models are and what expert or company teaches how to build them.
The expert or company you chose to model must have a proven track record of success; otherwise, you’ll be modeling failure.
The Internet makes it easy to research experts and businesses.
Simply use your favorite search engine to find consumer reviews about their products and services.
If they have a large number of reviews and most of them are positive, there’s a good chance that their products and services are of quality.
Also, check to see if the seller has a money-back guarantee.
If they have a good overall reputation and at least a 30-day money-back guarantee, there’s no risk.
After you’ve identified who the successful people or companies are, begin investing in their courses, create a folder on your computer and begin collecting data on how they do things, which you could study.
Never stop listening to what successful people have to say, but read between the lines.
Listen for insight into how they think about things and how they approach their challenges.
2)) Model Successful People
Sometimes when you’re looking from the outside in, you won't always know what is causing a person's success.
For instance, I recall learning about an Internet marketer that generates thousands of dollars per day using a simple one-page website.
Upon first glance, the opt-in page looked as if it could easily be created.
However, as I began reverse engineering it, I realized that it was custom-coded and actually consisted of two pages, an Opt-in and a Thank You page that populated the survey results.
Come to find out, this marketer spent well over $50k to have a programmer develop this two-page website, not to mention the thousands spent testing and tweaking it so that it converted visitors into subscribers.
Now I could have taken the long and expensive route by hiring a programmer to recreate a similar website and waste thousands of dollars in the process.
Instead, I researched this marketer and found several positive consumer reviews on his product.
I then purchased his system so that I could model his success.
Now instead of looking from the outside in, I was on the inside of this marketers proven success system.
This is the approach you should take to reduce risks and avoid a lot of the pitfalls associated with achieving goals.
It is more important to do the right things than to understand why they are right.
To also understand is great, but at first, it may be best to just copy many of the actions, attitudes, and approaches of someone who is already succeeding.
Try to model success, even before you understand it.
As you learn more, you can drop those parts that aren't contributing, and add elements of your own.
If you model a successful parent, for example, and life with your children gets better, does it matter if you know right away which changes were the most effective?
Of course not!
Is it better to understand why what you are doing is working?
Certainly, but you may not ever understand why some things work, and this is okay too.
It is better to have success than to explain it, so find successful people and do what they do, not what they say.
This is an important distinction that can make the difference between success and failure.
3)) Take Action On Your Research
Now that you understand the importance of modeling successful people and may have even made a list of those you’d like to emulate, it’s time to take action.
It doesn’t matter how much knowledge and step-by-step information you acquire if you do nothing with it.
You may end up in the same place in life as those who don’t have access to it.
If you have confirmed that a particular process or system is proven to work, then all you have to do is work it.
This is why it’s important to model success, to begin with.
You may have learned in school that a big boulder sitting on top of a mountain contains Kinetic Energy, which is nothing more than potential.
It isn’t until the boulder rolls down the mountain that its true potential of what it can do is revealed.
Well, think of a proven system as potential.
You’ll get no results until you set it in motion like that boulder rolling down the mountain.
Nike says it best, “Just Do It!”
Conclusion
We just covered 3 Keys To Success Using Modeling to achieve the goals your set in life.
Most of us aren’t born with silver spoons in our mouths and must work hard to accumulate assets and achieve goals.
There’s not a lot of room for error when you lack the resources to get ahead.
Why blaze new trails when you could make your life so much easier by modeling the success of others who have already paved the way?
Smart intelligent people achieve more because they understand the importance of not reinventing the wheel.
Tony Robbins is a big advocate of modeling the success of others.
He’s always said that modeling speeds up the process because if you do what’s proven, you’ll get the same or similar results.
If this wealthy gentleman who owns at least ten businesses models others, you should too.
The big takeaway is to model success and avoid the trap of trying to figure everything out on your own.
